The large preparedness drill held on the morning of Wednesday, December 3, at Kalavryta Hospital was described as absolutely successful, conducted in the presence of observers from KEΠY-EKAB and the 6th Health District. The exercise was part of the Hospital's operational planning for emergency management and was based on the official "PERSEAS" and "SOSTRATOS" plans.

The scenario: Earthquake and multiple incidents
According to the realistic scenario, a strong earthquake strikes Kalavryta. The Hospital's Technical Service immediately performs a visual inspection of the facilities, identifying damages, while injured individuals begin to appear and the evacuation of part of the building becomes necessary. In the courtyard area, response tents are set up, fully equipped for triage, surgical procedures, and patient care.

At the same time, a fire is simulated in another part of the building, where an employee is trapped, prompting the immediate intervention of the Fire Service.

The staff's response
With the "impact" of the simulated earthquake, the on-duty doctor, the on-duty nurse, the shift technician, and the safety officer are immediately mobilized. The Hospital Director convenes the members of the Evacuation Committee via emergency alert, while the 6th Health District and KEΠY are informed of the need for partial evacuation of the building.

EKAB, the Fire Service, and the Police arrive on site, assisting in the coordination and management of the incidents. Staff gather in the outdoor parking area, where they receive instructions and directives regarding their duties.

The tents that were set up
Fully organized structures were created in the outdoor area:

  • Triage tent
  • Yellow tent for moderate-severity cases
  • Red tent for surgeries
  • Care/ward tent
  • Area for ambulatory patients

The Technical Service equipped the tents with power supply, water, and oxygen cylinders, while a special team organized patient transport.

The assessment: "We are ready"
After the end of the exercise, an evaluation meeting took place. The Hospital Director, Kostas Lotsaris, expressed his full satisfaction in a statement to Kalavryta-News, thanking all staff for their excellent cooperation and emphasizing that "the Hospital is always operationally ready, whether during crisis conditions or daily operation."

Positive comments were also expressed by the representatives of KEΠY-EKAB (Mr. Kapralos), the 6th Health District (Mr. Karzis), and the Director of EKAB Western Greece, Ms. Solomou, who participated operationally. They highlighted the flawless coordination and the value of regular drills in maintaining a high level of preparedness.

The Fire Service Commander, Mr. Michalopoulos, noted that such actions are vital for collaboration and for defining the role of each service during real emergencies.

The exercise concluded with absolute success, confirming that Kalavryta Hospital and its cooperating agencies can respond effectively to situations of high pressure and danger.
